The images I am showing you are disturbing but reality hurts. Last night again I spoke out at Kristyn Wong-Tam's second Moss Park Demolition 'community' sales pitch. Like last week Kristyn had the audience stacked with paid staff, Real Estate Developers, paid Consultants with most of the crowd just regular folk who actually live in the community. Again the Developers did lengthy speeches on how we need to demolish half the park and the John Innis Community Centre. This time it was personal.
You see my friend Bowen became homeless 10 years ago after his father died of cancer, his mother passed away when he was a teenager. He and his brother Graham lived with their dad in a rented house his whole life. When he died they both became homeless. Bowen even lived with me for about 2 months. We have been friends for years.
Truth is the John Innis Community Centre does not need to be demolished. Moss Park is also fine and one of the few parks left in the downtown core with a Gym, Skating Rink, Pool, Baseball Diamond, Basketball Court and Meeting Rooms.
Kristyn and her paid team want to convince council to spend 100 million of your hard earned tax dollars on removing half the park and community center when there is absolutely nothing wrong with either. The center is NEVER at capacity. I have been using the facility for 5 years. Go see it for yourself.
The building is also historic, the first community center in Canada, and only needs a bit of maintenance. The real problem in the Moss Park area is homelessness. An issue Wong-Tam had ignored for 8 years now. Why? Because real estate is her business and the 100 million she wants us taxpayers to cough up will go directly to her Developer friends who are pushing for another massive payday. NO!
If you must put more tax dollars into yours and your developer friends pockets at least do one thing for the community. Ask the city for 20 million not 100 million to build 2 apartment buildings for the homeless. With Police, Rehab, Mental Health and Jobs all in one place. Toronto's homeless problem will be solved!
My friend Bowen has been waiting for affordable housing for 10 years now. The first picture is 10 years ago. The second 5 years ago after he attempted suicide because he couldn't handle living on the street and in hell hole homeless shelters anymore. Bowen told me he attempted suicide because he had no home and believed he would never have one. The last picture is from last week where he was sleeping on a bench in front of the Metro on Gould. See the difference?
We see our Councillors priorities by what we see not what they say. I will fight for Bowen and the thousands of Bowen's who have no voice. Remember every other day a homeless person dies on the street. I will NEVER give up fighting literally for their lives.
After my speech, with my friend Michael Cobb beside me videotaped everything. Kristyn approached us and threatened to sue me.
UPDATE: Kristyn Wong-Tam and Co. convinced Toronto City Council to give her 100 million dollars to destroy the last free downtown Recreation Centre. Seems that lying then taking money from City Council to give to her developer friends was to easy. Shame on all of them for not asking any questions. I'm sorry Bowen I tried.
If you question Krystin about her real esrate portfolio you are immediatly called a Racist, Mysogynist, Nazi, Alt Right, Thug or Xenophobe. Sadly this has become all to common in politics these days. The good news is the public dont buy it anymore.
